What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy belongs to the holistic manual therapy methods and was developed in the 19th century by the American physician A.T. Still (1828 - 1917).
The aim of osteopathic treatment is initially to detect functional and movement disorders in the body. This is done by the osteopath's trained hands, by "listening in" to the patient's tissues. The essential principles of osteopathy consist in maintaining or restoring the movement and mobility of the tissues in the whole organism by solving the functional disturbances, the so-called "lesions". By treating the complaints, the osteopath helps to activate the self-healing forces in the body.

The osteopathic treatment

Osteopathic treatment in horses always includes a precise movement analysis, preferably on the lunge line or under the rider. Then all joints and the entire spine are examined for their mobility in order to detect blockages or displacements. At the end there is the treatment with the different osteopathic techniques. The saddle is also inspected, because sometimes an ill-fitting saddle is the cause of discomfort.
Osteopathic treatment in horses takes about 1 ½ hours for the first visit.
